On Jared Taylor and White Supremacy in Grand Junction

On the 27th of March, avowed white supremacist Jared Taylor will be speaking at Colorado Mesa University. Taylor has a long history of associating with far right, fascist terrorist organizations such as Patriot Front, and hate groups such as the National Policy Institute, which is headed by the Anti-Semite and white nationalist Richard Spencer. Jared Taylor has gone on record making abhorrent statements, such as “blacks and whites are different. When blacks are left entirely to their own devices, Western civilization – any kind of civilization – disappears.”

The Mesa County Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (MC-DSA) condemns Jared Taylor and white supremacy in the strongest possible terms. Fascism, white supremacy and all of its derivatives are ideologies based on violence, social division and hatred. They are designed to divide the working class along lines of race, ethnicity, national origin and religion. Their leaders use populist rhetoric to deceive the working class while behind the scenes they collaborate with billionaires and oligarchs.

MC-DSA recognizes fascism as being the greatest enemy of the American working class, and the working class of the world, who have more in common with each other than they do with their respective billionaire ruling classes. Fascism, at its core, is the dictatorship of the rich and powerful finance oligarchs over the vast majority of working class people. Fascism, put briefly, is the opposite of the socialist world that MC-DSA is fighting to build.

As an organization, MC-DSA believes that the only way to effectively fight fascism, which is the power of the billionaires disguised as populism, is to fight for socialism, which is the power of the masses of working people organized politically and economically. Without a strong socialist labor movement, there is no way to effectively fight and defeat fascism. Per our Chapter’s Points of Unity, MC-DSA is dedicated to building a strong, multi-racial and multicultural United Front of the working class to oppose the tyranny and hatred of the billionaire capitalists and those like Jared Taylor who serve their interests.

Jared Taylor being allowed to speak at Colorado Mesa University represents an attempt by fascists and their witless appeasers to normalize the ideas of white supremacy and right-wing authoritarianism. It is not the beginning of the struggle, nor is it the end. To defeat fascism, socialist-workers and non-socialist sympathizers must carry out an unbending and protracted political and economic struggle against it and all of its manifestations.
