Join the Resistance! MC-DSA to Hold May Day March!

The Mesa County Democratic Socialists of America (MC-DSA) is hosting a community march on May 1st, that brings our complaints to the front door of federal power. The people that work in that building are the same people that sign the warrants, kick in the doors, and rubber stamp what are now obviously flawed legal orders that advance fascism.

The judges, prosecutors, federal law enforcement officers, and all those who process the paperwork that facilitates this slide into fascism need to see the will of the people.

They need to see that we will resist when the government rounds people up and disappears them into a murky detention system, or worse, concentration camps in foreign countries.

They need to know that the people are like a drum–the harder you hit us the louder we will become.

Historically, May Day (May 1st) has been a radical workers’ holiday for nearly 150 years. Rooted in the fight for basic worker rights during the gilded age, radicals of all stripes have bled for and on May Day. May Day is the one day the year the workers of the world can and do unite.

Immigrants are workers and the working class movement that DSA is building will not be silent when people like Alfredo “Lelo” Juarez Zeferino, an organizer for Justice for Farmworkers, are being targeted. We must act, when people like Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a union sheet-metal worker, are disappeared into a foreign prison with no due process.

“NO ICE, NO TRUMP, NO BILLIONAIRES!” ICE is the immediate threat, Trump is the immediate problem, and billionaires and capitalism are the root cause. We recognize that we have a problem bigger than Trump; that problem is the material conditions which produced Trump.

MC-DSA will gather at 3pm at Hawthorne Park, and march at 4pm to the Federal Building. We will rally there until about 6pm.

Another event being planned by Local Action & Community Engagement (LACE) will start at Grand Junction City Hall at 5pm. They will be doing a march through downtown. LACE’s march will pass by/through the MC-DSA event. This will be a perfect time for people to join their event as the MC-DSA event wraps up.

We hope to see people come out in strength to attend one or both of these community events.
